Biotechnology

This
page is devoted to the exploration of biotechnology's impact and issues
on a global scale. The issues that surround international biotechnology
are fundamentally more complex than the personal concerns of consumers.
As nations become more tightly joined economically, as environmental concerns
supercede national boundaries, and as internet communications allow instant
communications among global citizens, the future of biotechnology becomes
a world concern.
"Leadership at the international level
must be exerted by the institutional scientific community and development
institutions to stimulate discussion and to share knowledge on transgenic
crops with society that must be well informed and engaged in a dialogue
about the impact of the technology on the environment, food safety, sustainability,
and global food security" (James, 2000, ISAAA Brief 21).
This page, then, is an attempt to begin to increase
public understanding and dialogue on the implications of biotechnology
for global advancement and equity.
The page is divided into the following sections:
Global History

Food Safety
